Gamma Iota Sigma encourages all student leaders to embody its core values of Excellence, Integrity, Service, Teamwork, and Diversity in the way they lead on their campuses and serve their local communities. To further develop these leadership skills and expand their impact, students have the opportunity to participate in three premier national leadership experiences: Discover GIS, the Student Advisory Council (SAC), and the Grand Chapter Student Representative (GSR).

Discover GIS

  • Discover GIS is an immersive leadership experience designed specifically for first- and second-year college students. The program intentionally engages, providing them with opportunities to deepen their understanding of the actuarial science, risk management, and insurance industry while building meaningful connections with peers from across the country. Throughout the experience, participants interact with Gamma Iota Sigma's Board of Trustees and Advisory Council, gaining valuable insights, expanding their professional networks, and developing the leadership skills needed to thrive within GIS and the profession. Discover GIS applications open on January 13, 2027, and close on February 1, 2027.

Student Advisory Council (SAC)

  • The Student Advisory Council (SAC) is a group of 16 students who are selected based on their excellence in their local chapters and their desire to give back to Gamma Iota Sigma on a national level. The Student Advisory Council works alongside the Grand Chapter to enhance the GIS experience for chapters and all members. Members of SAC are asked to work in teams to assist with informational and educational sessions, conference planning, speaking engagements, and other national initiatives. SAC Applications open on February 15, 2027, and close on March 1, 2027.
Grand Chapter Student Representatives (GSRs)
  • The Grand Chapter Student Representatives (GSRs) are two students who have excelled in their local chapter and made valuable contributions to the Student Advisory Council. GSRs serve one term acting as liaisons between the GIS Board of Trustees and Advisory Council and 7,000+ GIS members.
